MODIFIED MADNESS RETURNS TO CENTRAL ARIZONA RACEWAY
The IMCA Modifieds return to Central Arizona Raceway to do battle Saturday night and will bring along the Pure Stocks, Super Stocks, X-Mods, and the debut of the Renegade division.
Ricky Thornton Jr has been on a terror in 2013, and has won 7 races and currently leads the point standings. Thornton will be back to do more battle as he leads impressive rookie Cody Graham by only 10 points. Jason Noll and Eric Center are tied for third while Mark Harrison sits fifth. Casa Grande driver Brian Schultz will be in action as he is hot after his win last weekend at the Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, AZ. With the progressive purse, the Modifieds are sure to bring a healthy field to play on the Speedway.
The Super Stocks have a great point’s battle after two races as the top 6 are within 10-points of the leader Dave Kelley of Kearny. Marshall Miles sits second over George Fronsman and Mike Brigner. Eric Kelley and Tommy Thompson round out the top six. Last race, Allen Kelley held off Tommy Hussak III for the win.
At the top of the Pure Stock standings is a dogfight with Danny Curry and Bo Partain tied for the points lead. Ty Weidener is just a single point back. The three drivers along with Anthony Madrid put on a stellar show for the fans last race. Terry Churchwell and Nelson Morrow round out the top 5 in the standings.
AJ Heubner brings his undefeated status back to Central Arizona Raceway and will try for his third win of the season at the Speedway. Heubner leads Trevor Miller and Jason George by four points. Brandon Farrington and Nolan Morrow round out the top 5.
Finally, the brad new Renegade division will set sail on Saturday night. The entry-level stock class will bring tons of excitement and allow new drivers to race on a limited budget. ”The Renegade class is just like a Bomber class, but more Stock, basically knock out the windows, throw in some recommended safety items such as a roll bar, door bars, an aluminum seat and such” track co-promoter Benji Lyons said. The Renegade division is open to any American made vehicle with a wheelbase over 108 inches, so fans may see vehicles such as full size station wagons, old police cars, and other various types of automobiles battling for position on the Speedway.
