THORNTON CHALKS UP ANOTHER WIN AT CENTRAL ARIZONA RACEWAY
Driving his Certified Inspection Service/EMD Wraps Shaw chassis, Chandler’s Ricky Thornton Jr was able to hold off Jason Noll to chalk up another win on the 2013 season. In other action, Klay Colclasure was able to take home the Super Stock check, while Brian Stehr claimed another Dwarf Car main. Beau Partain was the Pure Stock winner and Mike Vosdoganes claimed the Renegade win.
After several tries to get the IMCA Modified feature started, Shelby Frye jumped to the early lead and started distancing herself from the pack. Don Earven slid into second while Jason Noll and Ricky Thornton Jr stormed through the pack. Noll and Thornton eventually got around Frye as a battle for the top spot started. As the battle started for the top position RC Whitwell threw his name into the fire, Frye battled for fourth with Eric Center, Earven and Cody Graham. Whitwell charged from the 16th starting position to battle for second, but pulled off under caution to end his great run. Contact sent Frye spinning for a caution to bunch up the field. Thornton was able to get by Noll and cruise to the win. Noll was a close second over Graham, Center and Earven. Thronton, Frye and Earven claimed the heat races.
Cyna Stehr and Derek Hudson led the Dwarf Cars onto the track for their feature event. Early on, Eric Muse took the lead and tried hiding as Jim Hock and Brian Stehr moved up through the field. By the time Stehr was into second, Muse had opened up a huge lead. A caution flag erased Muse’s lead and he fell back on the restart. B Stehr now led, but had his hands full with Hock nipping at his heels. B Stehr was able to claim the win over Hock, Ryan Henesey, Chad Steward and Ryan Irish. Henesey, Daniel Lamm and Hock were victorious in heat race action.
Eric and Dave Kelley led the Super Stock field to the green flag, with Eric grabbing the lead. Klay Colclasure didn’t waste much time and challenged for the top position. Colclasure snagged the lead with E Kelley and Allen Kelley in hot pursuit. As the laps winded down, Colclasure snagged a little bit more of a lead over the Kelley family as he went onto the win. E Kelley was second over A Kelley, D Kelley and Mike Brigner. Brigner and Colclasure were the heat race winners.
Ryan Eaden and Nelson Morrow shared the front row for the Pure Stock feature as they took the green flag. Eaden grabbed the early lead with Ty Wiedener and Beau Partain nipping on his heels. Contact sent Morrow spinning and he lost a fight with the concrete wall. Morrow was ok, but his car was finished for the evening. Partain got by Eaden for the lead and went on to win the feature event. Wiedener was second ahead of a hard-charging Matt Martinez, Terry Churchwell and Eaden. Partain, Eaden and Wiedener were the heat race winners.
Steve Soboski and Justin Harrah brought the renegades to the green flag with Soboski in his station wagon grabbing the early lead. Soboski had his mirror full of different colors of Detroit-steel, but was able to get his vehicle wide enough to hold them back. Soboski started losing power and Harrah snuck by into the lead. Mike Vosdoganes also snuck by and moved into second. Vosdoganes was able to pass Harrah and went onto take the win. Harrah was second over Justin Loflin, Soboski and Don Berner. Richard Bennett and Soboski were the heat race winners.
