SCHULTZ TAKES THE WIN AT CENTRAL ARIZONA RACEWAY
Local favorite, Brian Schultz took the very popular win Saturday Night in the IMCA Modified feature at Central Arizona Raceway aboard his Pinal Gypsum/Randy Lingo Trucking Shaw Chassis. In other action, Nolan Morrow took his first Central Arizona Raceway win of the 2013 season in the X-Mod division, and Klay Colclasure claimed the Super Stock main.
The IMCA Modified feature saw Mike Masters and Jay Foster on the front row. Foster jumped to the early lead with Brian Schultz and Shawn Zelenka racing into the top three positions. Schultz was reeling in Foster on the outside, when he saw Zelenka put a nose under him, and showing him there was a bottom. Once Schultz pulled back away from Zelenka, he tried the bottom and was able to power by Foster and claim his first win at his home track. A very happy Schultz exclaimed he has been waiting 20 years to win at the track that is located about a mile from his home. Foster crossed the line second after pressuring Schultz. Zelenka crossed the line third over Keith Krenklis and Dan Radcliffe.
The X-Mod feature rolled out, with the championship on the line for Trevor Miller and AJ Huebner. Miller came into the night with a 3-point lead over Huebner. Huebner never played a factor as he had problems all night with his car, and missed the heat race. On the other hand, Miller knew Huebner was in the rear, and played the cards in his favor. Miller jumped to the lead and looked to be setting sail on the X-Mod Main win and the championship while Huebner was in the pit area. Nolan Morrow was up to second with Chris Caldwell and Ron Poe battling along with Gerry Glenn for the top 5 positions. With only a handful of laps remaining, Miller’s engine expired in a cloud of white smoke. Huebner’s crew sent Huebner back onto the Speedway to see if he could make up any positions on Miller, but that was short-lived as he was back in the pits after a few laps. Morrow took advantage of Miller’s misfortune and took the win. Caldwell was second over Glenn, Poe and Matt Rice to round out the top 5.
Once Mike Brigner saw the Green Flag in the Super Stock main, he could race hard for the win, as he knew no matter what happened, he would be the champion. Klay Colclasure took the early lead and Brigner was out early with a broken transmission. Colclasure set sail and cruised to the win over Dave Kelley, Larry Brigner, Dave Kahrl and Mike Brigner.
